Spectre & Bond

They could not have come up with a better name. SPECTRE stands for SPecial Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, Extortion. Nice group of friends, huh? The 24th Bond film will feature this organization as the villain. I am not even going to pretend to know everything about this niche topic in the Bond canon, reviewers, such as this one, do an excellent job of that, and I recommend taking a moment to make yourself familiar with the issues. All other reviewers have noted the "octopus" figure, that is the official logo of SPECTRE, with the bullet hole. That kind of thing though isn't why you come to this blog, you're looking for more, so is there something everyone else has overlooked?
You bet they have.
It's glass.
The bullet hole has gone through a piece of glass and shattered. Why is that important? Because glass symbolizes reflection. Black, the dominant color of the poster, symbolizes death (either death to the world, so the person is holy and spiritual, pursuing heaven rather than the world, or dead to the spirit and alive to the world, pursuing pleasure, glory and power rather than the needs of the soul). A bullet hole symbolizes that someone is shooting you and trying to kill you..... So, what we have here, is a statement that is true of both SPECTRE/Blofeld and Bond himself,... SPECTRE taking in the negative interpretation and Bond, the hero, the positive.
Things don't "line up" in either of these two posters about individual men taking on a huge crime organization. We might also mention the similarity to HYDRA in the Marvel Universe, specifically as it was portrayed in Captain America: the Winter Soldier. Why an octopus? It has a hand in everything, there is no aspect of international crime this organization isn't a part of or controlling in some way.
SPECTRE is dead to consequences and long-term thinking regarding their actions and what they are doing; they are going to pursue their coarse regardless of what it means for anyone and everyone; even for themselves as someone (Bond) tries to destroy them. Bond is up against his toughest enemy and he will have to be completely centered and focused on what he is doing and why, as well as keeping himself aware of what he is doing and why, because SPECTRE is going to try and kill him in numerous ways (and I don't mean with a shark tank, or grenades, but kill his soul in numerous ways).
There's a lot more to be said about this, and I will say it, but for the moment, it's important that SPECTRE has been brought back because their symbol is an octopus, just like the octopus Octavius Brine in Penguins Of Madagascar, which we shall explore fully. For example, an octopus is highly intelligent, and protects itself from its enemies by "blinding" them with ink,... sound like Democrats? Well, not the intelligent part, of course,... Octopuses are also venomous and lack a backbone.
